I absolutely remember a "Veronica" in the days I was there. Definitely one of the cool girls. The name has stuck as that was the only "Veronica" I have ever encountered though the boys liked it as a name. Because of the Veronica & Archie comics it was more common in the US. 

As you mentioned you were grateful how someone above got back? Maybe join most here and (if you have email) put an email icon on your posts? The board has a way of hiding the address if you prefer, while still letting emails through.  :-)

Other girls names I most remember: Betty Lawrence and Jane Kingdon.

I remember the field hockey for sure, great game, I played it at the next school too (Gordonstoun UK), but... teams?!! That draws a blank. In the early 50s any teams were impromptu just for single games. I remember cricket too (yawn!!). Several images above hint at the considerable size of the playgrounds and in those fir forests we played super-scary night games every year. Plus the girls and boys both would swing around for hours in the unusual trees (lots of tall skinny stems, leaves only very high up) between the main hall (built in my day) and headmaster's house. More tree climbing on a huge tree down at the riverside. And not exactly sanctioned as a sport was scooping out "caves" in the furthest firs parallel to the highway.   

Sorry we did not overlap but that was a nice thought you had. Those look like the khaki uniforms we all wore. The aerial image is from the west, it shows the landscape drier (it was very lush in the 1950s) though not as bone dry as Google Earth shows it now.  In the foreground are the sick bay (right) and senior boys dormitory (left) where I slept for 3-4 years. 

Thanks for posting. In my time prior to you all 150 boys and 150 girls wore simply khaki (short pants, short skirts), with a red sweater for the few times it was cold. Those colors go together well and I have since always liked khaki which was THE color for out in the bush.

This is to quickly say that my father was the DD and then Director of the Geological Survey in Dodoma, and so I (Peter) and two sisters (Luise and Pamela) and brother (Julian) were successively at Mbeya School over more than a decade.

I recognise many names on this forum and the GTZ site, and I'd like to add some in future posts, plus more on buildings and things that went on.
