Title: Hemingway and Up-Country Swahili
Post by: Martin Walsh on 03 October, 2010, 13:52
I've just posted a short article on my East African Notes and Records blog (http://notesandrecords.blogspot.com/ (http://notesandrecords.blogspot.com/)) about Ernest Hemingway's use of Swahili in his Green Hills of Africa (1935) (see http://notesandrecords.blogspot.com/2010/10/bad-swahili-and-pidgin-swahili-in.html (http://notesandrecords.blogspot.com/2010/10/bad-swahili-and-pidgin-swahili-in.html)). I'd welcome comments on this and especially any recollections and observations that forum members have on the past and present use of "Up-Country Swahili" (= Kisettla = Kitchen Swahili) in N Tanzania and elsewhere in E Africa. Asante sana, mingi tena!
