After six years the old theme was looking a little tired.  This should be a bit clearer, and should work on tablets and phones.

Let us know of any problems you find. Post a reply here, or use the email or message button under my name on the left.

Comments, good and bad, are welcome.

Not self promotion - just the sort of post to be encouraged.

Where can we get a copy - Amazon says out of stock?

Will you be at the GWEAA conference  in November? http://gweaa.com/

Recommended by an ex-Kongwa girl, who said "I simply wanted to find a space to encourage ex-Kongwa-ites to read a book written by Anthony R. Edwards called, The Slope of Kongwa Hill.  ISBN 973-1-897435-65-6.  It's a great read and even a girl, (moi!) can empathise with the adventures even though ours may have been slightly less dangerous.  The general descriptions are so true to how I remember the school and its surroundings.  I went to Kongwa from 1952 or 1953, (yes I know I should be more exact but my memory is dreadful!) until Kongwa closed; its pupils moved en masse to Iringa."  Morag Cormack

UK, Tue 22 June 2011, 22:35 on BBC One (except Northern Ireland, Wales)

"In 2009, over a hundred former pupils from two Catholic prep schools in England and Tanzania were reunited via the internet. Chatting in cyberspace, they discovered they had all suffered terrible abuse at school: mental, physical and, in some cases, sexual. As young children they were frightened into silence by their abusers.

Now, as men in their fifties and sixties, and strengthened by the group, they want the truth to come out. Twenty two men have started legal proceedings against the Rosminian Order for compensation. They want justice. But half a century has passed, and their abusers are now elderly. What will it take to repair the damage and for the victims to feel able to move on?"

This forum / How do I? Add a link.
14 April, 2010, 08:57
When typing in your post, you may want to add an external link, maybe to your own website.

Simply type the complete URL (web address) either with or without the http:// bit. e.g.

http://www.yourURL.com
www.yourURL.com

Or you can use the special tags [ url ][ /url ] .  Insert them using the Blue Globe icon, second from left, bottom row above.  The tool tip when you hover over it says "Insert Hyperlink"  That will insert "[ url ][ /url ]" into the code.

e.g.
[ url ]www.YOURURL.com[ /url ]

You can also have true hyperlinks using the [ url ] code. Just use the following format:

[ url=http://www.YOURURL.com ]the name of the website[ /url ]

Note: extra spaces have been added to the tags so that they display, rather than work.

When you are creating or editing a post, click on Additional Options (under the box, on the left).

Select Choose File and you can then browser your computer and select the images you want to add.

Images of course are the jpg file option, but you can also add other attachments such as word documents or PDF files.

Note the restriction:
Allowed file types: doc, gif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png, txt, zip
4 files per post, maximum total size 4096KB, maximum individual size 1024KB.

If anyone finds these restrictions too limiting, post a reply here, and they can be adjusted.

Film, Music, Books etc / Crimson Wing

THE CRIMSON WING
Mystery of the Flamingos

"In a remote and forgotten wilderness, one of nature's last great mysteries unfolds: the birth, life and survival of a million crimson-winged flamingos.

Against the dramatic backdrop of unforgiving, never-before filmed landscapes, we follow the birth of a tiny flamingo hatchling, and the perils and fortunes of her life in the extraordinary "other world" of Lake Natron in northern Tanzania."

Watch out for this film from Disney Nature - released in cinemas in 2009.

In the UK, it's released in Sep 25 2009, in Cineworld cinemas - my local has only 4 viewing next Tuesday.

It's a fabulous film about the flamingos on Lake Natron - do see it if you can.

More info in the IMDB

A piece from the Guardian in January.  [The proposed soda ash factory which could have threatened the flamingos is now not going ahead ]

More from the Arusha Times
http://www.arushatimes.co.tz/local_news_1.htm
[link is to current edition - after this look in the archives for Issue 00576 July 18 - 24, 2009]

"The Arusha School kicked off its 75th anniversary series of feats last weekend with special curtain-raising sporting events.

The whole day sporting activities involving current and former pupils took place at the school grounds, signaling three months of such activities to mark the legendary institution's long existence in providing quality education while at the same time bringing together students of different cultures, language  and background.

The climax of these anniversary celebration fetes has however been slated for yet another Saturday of October 24 this year, three months from now but essentially five months from the original Arusha School's real 75th birthday, which was reached on May 25. "

Some reviews

The Telegraph doesn't like it

But John Simpson was kinder.

The Independent thinks it a bit of a Beeb "love-in".

The Times has a piece by the producer.

The Guardian certainly didn't like it.

But best to look at their Facebook page, with lots of location shots in the photo album.

Questions we've been asked:

How do I register?

On the front page of the forum (http://www.ntz.info/wiki/) it should say:

Welcome, Guest. Please login or register.
Email:        Password:

Select the Register option.

Alternatively, this link should take you straight there http://www.ntz.info/wiki/register/

I am having trouble logging in however as the system tells me that my email address doesn't exist! Help?

If you try to login with your email address BEFORE you have registered, you get the misleading message That email address does not exist, which actually means that the email address you entered doesn't exist on the forum - because you haven't registered.

Please try selecting the register option, and see if that works for you.  After you have registered you will be able to login again using the boxes on the home page.

Note: You need to be registered and logged in to see any of the photos on the forum.  Hence you won't be able to see the screen shot of the login or register message until you succeed with the process.
